I’m currently taking a multimedia online course at Florida International University which has expanded my knowledge about journalism. Many people think that newspapers will some day become extinct and we young journalists need to be prepared for whatever the world has in store for us.
In today’s world most of the youth obtain their news from the internet, radio and television. I include myself in that bunch.
So in my opinion it is imperative that future journalist learn about the different mediums and learn how to write news not only for print and television, but also for the World Wide Web.
In the seven weeks of school so far, I’ve created this blog in which I’m able to educate and inform people about the deadly pandemic that’s affecting the world, AIDS. In addition, I’m learning on how to create a user friendly site in which people can get information about the deadly disease.
In writing for newspapers, I learned that is important to place the most important facts at the top (Inverted Pyramid) and have excellent grammar. In writing for broadcasting, I learned that it’s vital to make the stories short and simple for the ear to understand.
And now in writing for online, I learned that it’s imperative to combine both of the aforementioned techniques, in addition to adding visuals to complement the well written stories.
I’ve actually enjoyed creating this blog because; I like to write stories and add my personal touch. I like the fact that I can choose my favorite font, color and pictures to complement my stories. I’m simply loving it!
